How to make an Afterglow

To make an Afterglow, shake with ice and strain into a highball glass: 2 oz orange juice, 2 oz pineapple juice and ½ oz grenadine.

Contains no alcohol as written. If you need to avoid alcohol completely, check labels: some products sold as non-alcoholic, like beers, wines and bitters, can contain small amounts.

    Add orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine to a cocktail shaker.

    Fill the shaker with ice.

    Shake hard for 10-15 seconds, until the outside is frosty.

    Strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice cubes.

Why shake? Orange juice and pineapple juice need a hard shake to mix and chill properly.

What does an Afterglow taste like?

Mostly fruity and sweet. It's a non-alcoholic drink.

What's the difference between an Afterglow and a Space Odyssey?

Both use orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine. The Space Odyssey uses 151 proof rum and Malibu rum. The Afterglow is stirred and served in a highball glass; the Space Odyssey is built in the glass and served in a highball glass. The Space Odyssey is the stronger of the two.

Should an Afterglow be shaken or stirred?

Shaken: orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine need a hard shake to mix and chill properly.

What can I use instead of grenadine?

Raspberry syrup will work.

Can I make Afterglows in a batch?

Yes. For 6 drinks, mix 12 oz orange juice, 12 oz pineapple juice and 3 oz grenadine in a jug and chill it. Add 5⅓ oz of cold water to stand in for the dilution from shaking. Pour over fresh ice to serve.
