About Drinky-Drink
Hi, I'm Alec. I'm a web developer who moved to the Bay Area right before the pandemic, and Drinky-Drink started as a way to learn about mixology and enjoy as many cocktails as I could. I'm not a professional bartender or a critic, just someone learning the craft one drink at a time. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do. Cheers!
How the recipes work
There are 616 recipes on the site. Every one gets a flavor profile, an estimated strength, a color and a set of related drinks, all worked out from its ingredients. Each ingredient has its own scores for how tart, sweet, fruity, bitter, herbal, creamy and smoky it is, and the recipe's amounts decide how much each one counts. Strength is calculated from each ingredient's alcohol content, allowing for the water that ice adds when a drink is shaken or stirred.
The numbers are a guide, not a lab test, but they make it easy to find something new that tastes like a drink you already love.
Where the recipes come from
Many of the original recipes come from TheCocktailDB, an open, crowd-sourced cocktail database. We've corrected, merged and rewritten them along the way. Photos are our own.
